Red Sky at Ann's Point Inn

Comments From Past Participants

We can't say enough good things about Ann's Point Inn. From the big picture to the smallest details, Alan and Jeannette thought of everything. We not only felt warmly welcomed and luxuriously provided for, we felt pampered and appreciated as friends, not just paying guests. The inn and its location were gorgeous! The breakfasts, divine. And the cooking school added another fabulous dimension. We loved James and Chiaolin! The cooking lessons were fun and educational, with delicious results! Thanks for creating a wonderful experience and fond memory!

Ann's Point is exceedingly beautiful and our accommodations were 5 star and pure luxury! Alan and Jeannette are the kindest and most attentive hosts. They did everything possible to make all of their guests feel very special!!

The owner of the Red Sky Restaurant was our culinary instructor and the foods we created were delicious! We learned how to properly cook and clean lobster in the restaurant's kitchen! Additionally, we learned how to make puff pastry for apple dumplings and the finer points of making vanilla ice cream. Our meal was a Mexican lobster stew with mussels, scallops, potatoes, etc. We also made corn tortillas with re-fried beans, goat cheese and tomatoes. We made a smoked duck, beet and potato fritter with cranberry and apple chutney, and dessert of apple dumplings and vanilla ice cream. All courses were paired with wonderful wines and delicious before-dinner drinks! We also prepared home-made beet pasta with shaved Parmesan cheese, smoked mussels with garlic mayo, fresh cod sauteed on wilted arugula and greens, and mini orange cakes with home-made raspberry sorbet!!

There was not one part of this culinary experience that I did not enjoy!!! This was a "Best Ever" vacation for my sister and me. For anyone looking for an awesome vacation in Maine, I highly recommend this culinary adventure! You will not be disappointed and will walk away with wonderful memories!!

We watched the tides roll as we viewed lobster boats dancing in the bay while eating amazing food we helped prepare. James from Red Sky led us through incredible food courses of local fare. We learned the lobster trade while touring Thurston's Lobster Pound and toasted the setting sky thankful for how lucky we were to be experiencing the three day cooking class at the opening of the summer season. We think that Jeannette and Alan have the most beautiful spot on the island!

We could not have asked for a more gorgeous setting for such a fun adventure. Ann's Point Inn is beautiful and appointed perfectly under the direction of Alan and Jeanette. The food retreat was fantastic thanks to Chef James and Tom. The amount of effort to make this a memorable experience was evident every moment of every day. Thank you for a perfect vacation in a perfect location.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have participated, and recommend the experience without reservation. Having enjoyed this marvelous inn at a prior visit, we expected the food and company to be wonderful. Happily, despite our own far from professional contributions, our expectations were exceeded. In a beautifully appointed newly renovated kitchen (with nearly every conceivable useful gadget), Chef James guided us with patience, tact and humor in the preparation of the numerous dishes listed on the web site. Tom, his equally patient and unflappable assistant chef was a master at keeping track of everything that was going on at once. Elizabeth contributed greatly with her sommeliers' expertise and warm company. It couldn't have been more enjoyable. We gained some valuable cooking "pearls of wisdom," delicious recipes and great memories of several days filled with the interesting, entertaining discussions.

If you have any interest in cooking, like great food, great drinks, and great company in a beautiful setting from which to see some awesome wildlife in action, don't hesitate to make a reservation to attend the next retreat. We hope it becomes a long and successful tradition at Ann's Point.

Following Eisenhower's statement to Patton in WW2:
  • B&B: Beautiful setting with a view to the ocean; peaceful place
  • Rooms at B&B: simply great and compare with a 5-star luxury hotel room anywhere in the world
  • Inn keepers: the best inn keepers in the world with the best breakfast in the USA; you really feel welcome!
  • Red Sky: small cozy restaurant with excellent food and not just the American "run of the mill" steaks and seafood
  • Chef James Lindguist: great teacher and innovative chef with a jovial approach
  • Assistant Chef Thomas: great tips with a practical approach
  • Cooking class: small group, typical Maine food, lots of organic vegetables, etc.
  • Summary: simply great and we will be back for the next class next summer!
