Ann's Point Inn in Winter

Guests often ask what winter is like at the inn and whether we get snow, being so close to the ocean. Sometimes, a thin coat of ice floats on the water at high tide, and at low tide a sparkling icy glaze can cover the rocky bottom.

And sometimes, the snow does fall.

During winter in Maine, the sun rises and sets to the south. From the inn, sunrise is across the water over the village of Bass Harbor. Sunset is across the water behind a local fisherman's dock.

When our summer birds leave, others come from further north. Some birds stay the year-round, like these mallard ducks settling along the shoreline.
